NBA TOONS, WHERE ARE YOU? June 19, 2006

(12:30pm)

Sorry, I probably won't have an NBA Toon up and ready for this week because I have to get raped by my Finance final which I probably need a 43 pt Wade-like effort to pull off a good grade. I'll get it up by this weekend or next Monday at the lastest!

The bitch of it is, the exam's at night, on this frikkin Thursday! You just KNOW Game 7 is on. As much as I love Dwyane's heart (which is still being researched by scientists as the newest form of energy), the Mavs just won't give up Game 6 like that.. especially coming home, they want someone's head served up cold on a silver platter.

WHO’S CLUTCH??

Who's ClutchWhat an amazing finish. Honestly, I turned into my 11 year old self when Dwyane had to make those free throws, as I couldn’t bear to see. Dallas played great, Heat played great.. it really came down to who reaaaally wanted it. Dirk was scary by doing clutch things..that is until DWade became clutcher: Dwyane Wade: comparisons no more.

JERRY STACKHOUSE’S DAY OFF June 18, 2006

Posted by TheHype in Photoshopery, Referees , add a comment |

(8:41am)

Dr. Stackhouse

I'm just about 2 days late with the "big news" and I guess all the rhetoric about the sketchy situation has pretty much been covered by "real news people". And it from the gut-standpoint (thank you Mr. Stephen Colbert) it wasn't malicious, though excessive (thus flagrant 1). But especially how Shaq and Stack made up afterwards it doesn't seem like it warrants a FULL GAME suspension for GAME 5 of the NBA Finals!

But Washington Post writer Mike Wise says the Mavs' coach whines too much:

For Johnson to go off on the league's alleged inconsistency smacks of hypocrisy. This new, no-contact NBA, in which every hand check is whistled, is the reason why a lithe, quick and skilled team such as Dallas got to the Finals. Players such as San Antonio's Bruce Bowen cannot play as aggressively on the perimeter as they once did, which enables offensive-minded guards and forwards to get the space they need to release jump shots they never could get off before — players such as the Mavericks' Jason Terry, Josh Howard and Dirk Nowitzki. You can't have it both ways.

I agree the fluidity of the game today is in large part due to the rule changes thus allowing fun teams like Dallas and Pheonix being able to trive in the playoffs. But that doesn't mean when the NBA Offices does something head-scratching that you don't/shouldn't argue about it. Coach Johnson isn't just going to fold like a beeeyotch, recognize. So YOU shut up Mike Wise.

Meanwhile, Riles is playing the "well it happened to us too before, so boo whoo" card:

"It was academic, based on precedent," Heat coach Pat Riley said of Stackhouse's suspension. "All you have to do is look at the James Posey hit in Chicago. … That's precedent. If, in fact, you know the league sort of deems that as excessive, then (you know) they're going to suspend you."

I thought the Mavs were going to win the series even though it's tied 2-2, but losing Stack makes the whole thing uneven you know? I want the Finals to be competitive, and it already is, no need to add fake drama when the real thing is just as good.

QUOTE OF yesterDAY

Believe it or not, [my children] don't really care too much about me, the basketball player. They refer to me as, "Dog Man" in the house.
[--Shaq, when asked what his kids think of him playing in the Finals.. and he's apparently a canine now.. SLAMonline.com]

Unrelatedness of the Day

Jessica Alba? Jessica Simpson? or Jessica Biel? Personally, if there ever was a Bhudda, I would enjoy the company of all three. But currently Alba seems like the cutest, funniest personality of those three without being torn to shreds by the tabloids. Abla wins.

[Blank] is the next Michael Jordan June 15, 2006

Dwyane I don't actually have any problems with comparing contemporary players to the great ones because seriously, it's inevitable and comes down hard like an anvil. There's no escaping the go-to clip of Jordan's Game 5 heroics whenever a player is reported with anything remotely close to a cough (When's that flu going away for Wade?). There's no escaping the reminder of Willis Reed if one of your main players gets injured but decides to limb and play (Raja Bell and/or Wade again).

So really, the only solution would be if you were to come up with some CRAZYass new development and be able to put up 35+pts and win the game for a whole new generation of "[blank] is playing just like when [blank did this]"

Some suggestions:

So yea, who knows, aren't those things what makes up the true heart of a champion? Hint: I think so.

Prediction for Game 4: 89-88 Heat Wins; Shaq gets 30 (pleeease?) and Wade returns with a modest 25. (For the record, there's no doubt that I believe Mavericks will win–in 6 is my guess, but I feel the Heat still have something to show for, can't wait for tonight).

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"My highest emotional moment hasn't happened yet." "Not yet"
[DWade, asked if Game 3 was..uhh, his highest emotional moment]

The Miami Herald delves into the philosophy of fear and confi-*yawn*…

Dallas Mavericks collectively has short term memory loss, in that they quickly forget the results of prior games — gotta get that checked out soon.

MIAMI HEAT WINS WITH HEART.. MARKETING HEART.. June 14, 2006

anna's hot

I still can’t get behind the “WHITE HOT” slogan employed all season by the Heat organization. Something about white and hot just really don’t belong together. Seriously, this is elementary — literally — light colours are for ‘cold’ C’MON! Anyways, fun finish to the game, though nerve racking for the Miami faithful.

In the words of the immortal Stephen Colbert: I CALLED IT! From my last post:

Prediction — 97-92 Heat win; Dwyane gets 31, 5, 9 (Gary, Eboy, and Cry-Baby gets double figures)

Wow, I must pat myself on the back for my first ever blogging prediction that came so so close. 98-96 the real score; Dwyane got 42, 13 and 5 (uhh..5 fouls..I know..still whatever). Williams, Walker poured in the 12 pts each and Gary hit the most needed shot. So yay for me!

But it still felt like Dallas‘ game to lose. They were so calm being down whatever at whenever that you can tell you could’ve won it had it not been DWade’s willing his team to win. And Shaq was only good for the first 2 minutes of the game. Dallas.. is scary man, Dirk had the quietest 30 points of the night while it was in tuned with the team that helped them to win. I know it’s the sins of all sins praising Walker, but I have to disagree with the fun and amazing guys over at Basketball Jones’ Podcast and say that he wasn’t utterly useless. He just has to remember to drive and attack — I think being at home helped him out this way.

And oh yea, is Udonis Haslem living the basketball dream? Because I need a reminder every gamem MIKE BREEN (but he’s doing a solid job otherwise).

jet
I’m pretty sure Jet had this type of eclectic training. If there’s evidence to the contrary, please contact 1-800-FAKE-NUM and I’ll promptly look into it.

As for tonight’s GAME 3, I truly think the Heat will dominate the first half and have a good 5-8 point lead cushion to pull out the win. Two bad games is over with, at least they’re back home in friendlier crowd. And please Riles, let DWade dominate whenever Shaq’s getting locked up in the post. At least have him be aggressive like Game 1; don’t mess with his head with “he can’t touch the ball or we’ll lose” c’mon dude!

Prediction — 97-92 Heat win; Dwyane gets 31, 5, 9 (Gary, Eboy, and Cry-Baby gets double figures)

BOB DELANEY IS GANGSTA June 12, 2006

Bobby Covert

Bob Delaney is a bad ass motherfocker — someone’s gotta remake Donnie Brasco and re-tell the whole story from Bob’s point of view. Last night during an ABC segment, they talked about how Delaney was deep undercover (a la The Departed’s storyline). But his old FBI alias was Bobby Covert? COVERT? REALLY? As in “covert operation?” — someone at the Bureau wasn’t working hard that day as Director of Alias-Naming and Other Such Identities.

NBA TOONS: SHAQ IS A BETTER FT SHOOTER THAN NASH?! June 10, 2006

Posted by TheHype in Miami Heat, NBA TOONS , 1 comment so far |

Sorry, I needed to make my “exaggeration of the millennium” statement since I’ve been putting it off for quite some time. This shocking exposé from the AP concludes that Shaq can’t shoot free throws:

“You know, we still have many opportunities to win a game and we’re still here,” O’Neal said. “So, you know, I’m seeing people that shoot 89 percent and don’t make the ones that they are supposed to make. I’ve just got to basically make the ones that I’m supposed to make, and I will. It’s not a problem.”

[--Shaq just dissing Nash, Billups and Cassell at the same time!! (..well, my intrepretation...)]

The article mentions that guards are generally better FT shooters than centers (ya think?) but right away my instant thought goes to Vlade Divac and Arvydas Sabonis. Both were battling Shaq for center supremacy several years ago but they were both SOLID free throw guys; career 70% and 79% respectively.

Anyways, that brings us to this week’s Doodling Installment:shaqpanel11.jpg

WHO CAN FOCUS IN THE FINALS? June 9, 2006

Posted by TheHype in 2006 Finals, Photoshopery , add a comment |

First of all yay for the Mavs, because, really if they lost, tons of people are going to be backtracking theirgarydreamin.jpgs comments about the rah-rah-rah Mavs is the better team blahblah. With all the no shows of Dirk and Josh, I was getting scared they might lose. But then again, Shaq decided to stay home as well. Who did come to play? Dwyane I WANT TO DUNK ON EVERYONEWade and Jason I Played With The HAWKS for 5 FRIGGIN YEARS And Now I’m In The NBA FinalsTerry.

It’s was loose, with tons of TO and missed opportunities. But overall, it was nice seeing the game up and down and with scores in the Finals.

100_JORDAN.jpg

Man, if Dwyane had larger hands, he could’ve had 10 more of those dunks instead getting fouls and hitting back rim..scary.. Somewhere, MJ is smiling… or envyous with rage in getting old and fat…I’m not sure..but probably smiling.

WHAT TO WATCH TONIGHT? June 8, 2006

Posted by TheHype in 2006 Finals , add a comment |

As the very cool Cavelier over at YAYSports so journalistically revealed that tonight’s tube skedge features a plethora of material — here’s my suggestions:

WATCH THE NBA.

I guess it’s a simple process for me, since I don’t have the MTV, that eliminates the sometimes funny, sometimes pimp-heavy Movie Awards.

I don’t have FOX Sports either, so that eliminates Kobe’s Nerdy Attempt To Be “one of the guys”.

Why don’t I have all these channels? Well, I live in Canadaland…Montreal, to be exact so getting them Anglais channels is hard to come by. Why bother with subscriptions that’ll cost too much
and that I won’t watch half the time anyway (MTV I’m looking at you).

So yea, GAME 1 of the FINALS is a goooo! And since everyone in the world is doing the predictionary, here’s mine that I haven’t seen anyone make:

MAVS in 2!!!!
