Early Morning Amateur LIVE BLOGGING Hour! August 23, 2006

Posted by TheHype in International Ball, Live Blogging , add a comment |

sunrise
Yes yes, you heard it here first. NBA Basketball and Other Unrelatedness is going big time with the first ever Live Blogging of the Team USA vs. Italy match this morning. I will be up at the crack of dawn (I realise the past couple times I said I was staying up for games but then ended up sleeping..) to provide a substantially somewhat better commentary than whatever ESPN throws at us.

Now, don’t mistake that for cockiness, it’s just blind ambition and who knows what will be the outcome of this. Word of caution: first time trying to do this witchery of “live blogging”–all the cool kids did it! So I don’t have any clue how to do it properly.. I only ask that if you’re reading this later on in the day, you should make a note that I woke up minutes ago and went to bed at around 1ish.

I can only hope I can type goodz that early in the morning…(there’s a 6:30am??)

Um..SPOILER Alert? Updates between breaks, or when I remember that I have to write down stuff

Who Has The Most Steals At The Worlds? August 21, 2006

A legitimate question? Sure. Significance for anything in particular?.. Absolutely none. It just gives me an excuse to do this:

Apparently the leading steals man is one Dimitrios DIAMANTIDIS (GRE) with 8 (at least 4 per game), just one more than Lebron James (and 0.5per game more). Well, good for him then!

No Fooling Around For Team USA August 20, 2006

Apologies for not saying something.. anything about the first Team USA game the other night.. I was sleeping.. very soundly (what can I say? gotta get my sleep on). So, forgiveness please! My sentiments are like most there out; that the team is just a bit pumped to get things started with games that count. I’m sure they can take a lot from the Puerto Rico game and make sure not to be as slugish. As for the China game.. not much you can take from that.. other than: just don’t get injured.

One thing that I believe Team USA can improve on is their jersey sponsorships. I mean, everyone else has a huge, ugly, intrusive logo right in front of theirs, why not the US? I hence forth give you my suggestions:

There’s like little “company” I want you to know about..

Ah, playing with those toys were the best times of my life (like 10 minutes ago)

Lazy Friday Afternoon Linkage August 18, 2006

The Cav from YAYsports! may be suffering from high toxic dosage of snake venom on the set of “Who Shot Mamba” as the site has become a walking informercial of sorts.

J.E. Skeets goes cranium to cranium with Agent Zero himself in a conversation that you might want to tell your kids one day.

Shoutout to Farlane for–uh–his shoutout here, because he comes back briefly with the newest edition of NBA COMIX to show us the incredible mad skillz that Coach K possesses.

He even suggested that readers could give their own ideas for the last panel of the last NBA TOON (I agree, anything would be a vast improvement) which I could re-mix for it, thoughts?

That’s it for this week in TheUnrelatednessNation. I’ll definitely stay up for the game tonight and I might post a recap with something like “It was a good game” so make sure you to stay tuned for that. Until then, have a great weekend everyone!

Man, I fell off big time with this one.. can’t say anything else other than I spared you the chance of looking at it right away. What? I ran out of steam near the end? Nah… it’s just me sucking.. so so much. So for the brave, click-on:

Be gentle if you are going to comment (which I welcome any time..) and I’m already bracing myself for the worst. I’ll look at this one as a transition.. I shall try better next go round!

But I won’t end this post in a downer, in fact, here’s a treat for you guys: A sneak preview of tonight’s late night US-Puerto Rico Live Blogging from yours truly:

Just a stream of bad luck or bad guy that keeps on streaming?
(Horrrrrible..just horrible..) (Isaiah Rider pulling a “Prison Break”)

I might have a ‘toon’ out for tonight if I get it done fast enough.. need to save my eyes for tomorrow’s checkup for “Lasik” surgery:

Let’s See Michael Jordan Pull This Off August 16, 2006

If MJ ever did try jumping with a trampoline like the guy in this video, I assume he would fly OVER the basket and crash into the next building. And by the way, I found…ripoff without asking.. “borrowed” this superb find from one of the always great TrueHoop entries today (and if you happen to come here from TH..well, see it again! But now with my commentary at the bottom!):

First of all, yeah yeah, it’s crazy cool and shit, but other than being vowed, or being madly annoyed near a level of hatred at the replay(s) voice, what I was reaally thinking was:

graphics.jpg
Chandler Bing voice: Could there BE any more graphics?

judge.jpg
This judge has that look that’s a cross between extreme skepticism and just a hint of worried for the kid. But it comes out like he’s thinking the worst might happen, like the trampoline breaks or something. And why do I think he’s a judge? Only because he has a suit.. and glasses, so it was the glasses that gave it away.

All Hail Emperor Shaq August 15, 2006

Some lovely photos of Shaq plotting his takeover of China:

shaqemperor5.jpg
See, it’s not just America that never had a black president, China never had a black emperor.. so think about that [/end somewhat politically incorrect joke]

shaqemperor2.jpg
There’s not that much noodling in Shaq’s mind other than the obvious things.

shaqemperor1.jpg
Finally, a bit Tarantino-esque. Btw, that’s not the actual English translation of what’s written in Chinese.. so whoever gets the real translation, gets a biiiiiig big prize from this blog. Hint (for the prize, not the translation): it has something to do with my hands, forcing them together.. and outputing sound, thus creating an ‘appreciative’ gesture.

And for the hell of it, since the picture was somewhat in the position of mockery:

I feel bad for picking on Clifford.. he seems like nice enough guy.. but that IS a huge doubie.

New Hit Show: FOX & COX

In another groundbreaking and controversial role, former LA Lakers/greasy hair guy Rick Fox decides to play a basketball player in a new FX show called “Dirt”. Rick, how do you choose these roles man.. it’s like you “feel” them out.. alas, I’ll never know what goes through the minds of real thespians.

But if there’s one suggestion I can make for Rick, it’s that he doesn’t get caught “riding Dirty”.

Full disclosure: daaamn Courtney Cox is fine.

Ira Doesn’t Like Gilbert Arenas August 14, 2006

Posted by TheHype in NBA TOONS , 1 comment so far |

he's cool

(UPDATE: Gilbert’s man-area has an ouchy so he’s dunzo for the Worlds.. boooo)

Who is this “Ira” fellow you might be asking me? Well, good question, Mr. Asking Person. I don’t know who he is either. But I do know he wrote this little entry for The Sporting News and just take a look at what he thinks about Agent Zero:

Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld’s low-cost haul of Stevenson, PF Darius Songaila, SF Caron Butler and G Antonio Daniels in the past two years is impressive, but the bottom line is the Wizards find themselves building around PG Gilbert Arenas, which begs the question: Can you win big building around Arenas? Seems like a stretch (and don’t try to sell F Antawn Jamison as anything more than a complementary player). . . .

Good lord, the audacity! And to finish your paragraph off with one extra ellipsis than what I’m used to seeing? Mr. Winderman, the nerve sir. Buuuuuut he does not ask an unfair conundrum, which is: Is this odd mid- point/shooting guard at 6′4″ the center of gravitation for a team enough to get past the 2nd round of the East? My answer is yes and no. I love Gil-Man’s game and personality, let’s get that straight. And I believe he’s almost at the same level as DWade and LeBron. But that also is where the problem arises. DWade, as amazing as he is, needed the role players in Zo, JWill, Posey, and CryBaby to make things work. LeBron is all around better than GA, but even he didn’t get past the Pistons because he didn’t have the adequate support like Wade did.

I guess my point is: Yes, you can build around Gilbert, but he needs good support. The Heat did it, why not the Wizards? Also, “don’t try to see F Antawn as anything more than a complementary player”? Oh, I am going to try, and I’m going to do it right now: Antawn is an articulate gentleman (as showcased by his reflections about being in Asia in this video). There, showed you Ira!

*side note, RE: NBA Broadband People — I don’t think I got the message the first 50 times.. what about erectile dysfunction? You really think men over the age of 40 are the demographic that logs into NBA.com to check on videos?

In other fresher news, and this one is especially for my newfound Aussie reader mates (see how I’m name dropping, the celeb lifestyle is getting to me, 121sports.com holla!): The Australian team beat the French team in an upset. Things that stand out with this story, 1) Mickael Pietrus of the Golden State Warriors has a brother also playing for the French national team 2) Mickael’s brother has an equal, if not much more, interesting first name 3) Even more interesting, said brother has a Wiki page. 4) The above article neglected to include a humorous exchange I found elsewhere:

They frustrated the French team and with just over one minute remaining, France’s Mickael Gelebale pushed Sam Mackinnon, who responded with a bigger push of his own.

Oh no he did-unn’t!

And I guess being a Montrealer I’m one sixteenth obligated to root for the French, so: “Ah merde! C’est quoi vos problèmes? Allez-y les gars!”

Finally, and don’t ask how I stumbled onto this site, the heading reads: “Robert Horry and BetUS.com do some good” Yeah, I’m sure they did
