So This Is My Future February 24, 2008

Quit ya whinin’ sissy and grab them boards!
A very “awwwww” story from the New York Times that just made my Sunday.

This side of John McCain, there are still 70 year olds throwing elbows and crashing the glass because … because they just love the game.

As a fellow rec league warrior that’s been playing with the same folks year after year this gave a tear to my eye, and not just because someone threw a ball into my face.

The other week at rec-ball the old timers were playing us young whipper-snappers and damn do they still got the whoopass going. I mean everytime dude post me up he’d do the Dream Shake and get to the rim. Mind you the guy is at least 2 feet taller than me and sweaty as hell… so you know it’s easier to slip by.

But wow, I gotta imagine that’s pretty much what’s it going to be for me in 50 years, balling like I ain’t on back medication son!

Any Given Monday (NY Times)

Hey, when it’s “for either player or spectator” you know the Superstar Sock company mean serious bidness! Bonus: Nate Archibald and Pistol

Totally stumbled on this while looking for a groovy Kareem Abdul Jabbar beard as an additional suggestion for the Blowtorch’s all NBA Beard Team.

PS: this post will totally destroy the inferior being that is Internet Explorer. Again, please just use Firefox from now til eternity (I’ll fix it when I make a new post… some time in the next light year)

Hey, Shawn Kemp Can Still Ball … Sorta September 27, 2007

I can’t believe I’m putting this under “Old School” but man, it’s been such a long time for Mr. Reign (Rain?) Man. It’s just not the same without you big guy. Anyways, I stumbled upon a rather interesting “mix” of a totally not-that-fat Shawn that’s dated about a year ago over at YouTube (no embedding tho). Like many of the commenters there said, he can do all that probably because he’s playing against 15 year olds.

But still, it looks mighty sweet, especially those passes. However, I object to the mixer-guy for including that off the knee steal as a “highlight”. Come on man, it’s Shawn Kemp, give him some dignity.

So, even though I couldn’t get that video here, I’ll put another one—where’s he battling a vagina monster in an old Reebok ad, enjoy:

Allen Houston Is Ninety to Ninety-Five Percent September 6, 2007

Ah, left the Unrelatedness sanctuary for a day yesterday… it feels… queasy. Played some night rec-league hoops from 8pm to 11pm — yess I can still stick that jab left, dribble right pull up J on the corner son! But my team kept on losing… so I cried a lot afterwards, dunno what that means though.

OK. Enough about me.

Allen “We Have a Problem” Houston is getting some digital ink from ES-Pee-And that his return is imminent because he’s sure sure he wants to return to the NBA. Well, that’s fine to me, I don’t really have a problem that… until…

[Allen’s agent] Strickland said that Houston is not returning for money. Houston’s last contract was for $100 million. Strickland said that the chance to mentor younger players would play a big part in Houston’s decision-making.

I’m so not buying that. It seems to be Allen Houston is now a zombie out to create another NBA contract problem, YOU JUST CAN’T STOP HIM! And besides, what is he going to mentor the kids with? “Yes, be one-dimensional as long as you can… hit a one-time memorable game winner… but after that, take as much from your team’s payroll as possible thus crippling them for decades to come… HIGH FIVE!”

See, Houston’s jump shot is/was hotter than an Iraqi firefight, but I really can’t stand to see what he represents and comes back into the lig once more.

Do People Still Care About Dennis Rodman? October 19, 2006

Obviously I do, or else I wouldn’t be putting up a post about it. I guess today is Bulls Champ-era theme day as the highclass TMZ “reported” that Dennis Rodman was outside of some club and was picking up girlsvideo proof) (along with a very boring, and quite frankly, badly shot

But really, is it still gossip-y to chat/report/videotape about Rodman’s social life? That’s been the dude’s life for quite a while. It’s like still being surprised that Bill Gates is rich.

I think the only thing really worth talking about Rodman is that he’s still sporting those stupid trucker hats…everywhere:

Hold The Presses! Michael Jordan Has An Opinion!

Via Xinhuanet:

“It’s obvious that European players master the fundamentals better,” Jordan told reporters while discussing the U.S. team’s disappointing bronze medal-winning display at last month’s world championships which Spain won with a 70-47 defeat of Greece.

“They have taken this aspect of the game to a higher level,” said the former Chicago Bulls superstar who retired in 2003.

“In the United States, we’re too focused on the highlights, dunks and passes. It’s not that we don’t have the players we need, but putting together a team becomes difficult under these conditions. But I think things are going in the right direction today.”

“In the long term it’s a good idea. The distance and the traveling would be a problem, but it’s obvious that European teams are increasingly competitive.

“European basketball has become very strong and their players have contributed a lot to the development of the game. The United States now has problems beating them.”

Now MJ is MJ, can’t really snark on him because, really.. he’s Jordan. But I’m pretty sure the hoops world already knows what’s up with the worlds. Maybe it’s only up to him to let the casual joe-sports fan say: “oh daaamn, honey, did you hear about Europeans being good? MJ said so!”

Anyways, those sentiments being redundant, we don’t know why we dedicated a post for it. Slow day…eh? And mr. photoshop is loopy today, *snif*
